I'm not big on politics, but this is one movie you should spend $9.50 on. It opens in theaters tomorrow, so clear up your schedules and go buy the tickets!

For those who haven't heard the buzz/controversy about this movie, here's the trailer. http://www.fahrenheit911.com/trailer/

Speaking of Canadians, has anyone seen that show "Talking to Americans", hosted by Rick Mercer? (He's just an all 'round funny guy!)
on Jun 30, 2004
hahahahahahahaha... yes, that's EXACTLY the show, although I didn't want to outright SAY it..

hahaha... very good show, I have it on tape, still.

Americans....It's really amazing that we haven't killed off each other sometimes. The are so many different lifestyles, cultures and beliefs here. There are parts of the country that one person would never set foot in, while another will flourish and live there to the end. Maybe the differences here aren't as extreme as some portray, when you look at other countries where people are committing genocide to eradicate their fellow citizens who are different. I'll say this and I agree with the international community that we Americans as a nation tend to come off as arrogant, maybe that's all that binds us together as a nation, that and pissing us off tends to bring us together, I don't know....I have a problem with individuals like Michael Moore that preach hate and try to divide us. It doesn't matter whether his views are based in fantasy or reality, fact or fiction, it's how he goes about it. I'll never ever in my life waste a minute of my time for him, my time here is too short for that.

That being said, I would LOVE for everyone to see it because I think Bush is a criminal and needs to be sat in the Dunce corner.

The Dunce Corner??? Are you kidding???? I think........ let me rephrase that......... I'm so sure that Bush is a criminal that he needs to be impeached and spend a few years in prison. He and his cronies are war mongering war profiteers, at the expense of hundreds of American and thousands of Iraqi lives. I think Abu Graib would be too good for them. And, I guess I'm kind of surprised at the number of people who actually support this administration, including on this site.

I'm definitely going to see the movie. It's not going to convince me one way or the other. My mind's made up.

Just an informal poll here.... I'm guessing, could be way off base here, the conservative folks, people that generally lean towards the right, possibly republicans and that sort are 30ish and older and the liberal folks, people that generally lean towards the left, possibly democrats and that sort are 30ish and younger.

I'm 41, conservative

The reason I'm asking is I think through US later 20th century history you see a pendulum swing in attitudes from liberal to conservative and back again, and I think how you are is what politics you were exposed to in your teens and early twenties. For me that would be Carter and Reagan.

38 and very liberal, although I never vote for the Liberal Party (neither in Canada or in Quebec) because, well because they're not really liberal.

A critique of Moore's film by one of those alleged "liberal" media outlets, Newsweek via msnbc.com: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5335853/site/newsweek/site/newsweek/

Essencay: my own experience often suggests the opposite...some of the most "conservative" people I know are younger folks. Of course at 41 you qualify as one of the youngins from my perspective.

41 indepedant...

for me both parties are a pack or liars and cheats pretty much.
they claim to stand for different things all in the name of those in need and line their pockets.
they do this by using different colored wrapping paper.

but you know what?

they spread feces on bread and hand it out calling it the flavor of the day and most everyone takes a bite and tastes the same crap every time. Only to get up and hold their platter up high and whisper "Please Sir, more?"

it is sad really considering we can not claim ignorance to this fact, so it can only boil down to complete stupidity.

who here really questions the why of terrorism in the end?

who questions why they seem to hate the USA so much?

who here honestly does not understand or totally accepts that it is ok that we've been messing around in their region, supporting dictators, training terrorists, sell WDM's and funding revolts as our leaders here at home dictated?

who here does not understand that the same CIA everyone wants to point their finger at for allowing 9/11 is the same exact CIA and Intelligence Community which is a large part of the issues at the nexus of Terrorism?

disclaim it, whine, scream shout and stomp your feet, hell throw your teddy in the corner as you will, but it will not change those facts.

this whole thing about freeing Iraq is a load of crap, just one of 23 or 24 different reasons for going into Iraq that has been tossed out to the public as each one sours and a new is needed.

we went into Afghanistan to destroy the Terrorists and to end Bin Ladens ability to continue. We are still there to some extent failing totally to do what we went in there for. But you know what the reason has been since the failure to do what was claimed? We went in to free Afghanis people and Afghanistan form the Tali ban.

well guess what, the Tali ban still fight on and they still go in and take over towns and cities, troops are still dying and the Tali ban still kill civilians as they like. We hear crap about Afghanistan anymore, it is as if no one cares. We pulled out our resources and left some troops to do something that should be done by those still there along with each and every single troop and resource that was diverted to Iraq.

so tell me again, why did we go into Iraq?

oh wait

why did we go into Afghanistan?

Iran is next...

if given the chance...

then maybe Syria..

There's no shame in supporting the freeing of an oppressed people. But when the powers that be accomplish what they set out to do ie: oust Saddam Hussein from power to stop the mass murder of the Kurds and the oppression of the minority tribes, we should have immediately switched to a solely humanitarian platform. but the illustrious errors of the political heads really aced their 'oopses' when they took it upon themselves to decide that we didn't need the help or the leavening opinions of the other respected members of the UN council...granted the violations of the articles were not contested and maybe a little more time was needed to decide exactly what form of action was needed....but....

Alienating the UN was such a huge mistake, however even the UN takes too much time babbling and doesn't seem to want to approach touchy subjects. I followed the processes and much to my chagrin the arguments from France, Germany and Russia seemed to be just as unproductive and inflammatory as those of the U.S....just on the other side of the coin. The talks were non productive and resulted in more petty name calling than anything else. Our UN needed to hold together and come up with something more viable and because of the ridiculous bickering and nitpicking were unable to perform as the body it was intended to be. Kofi Annan had his hands full of a bunch of spitwad schoolkids instead of professional diplomats intent on solution.

I wonder at this point how many Sudanese are going to continue to be murdered or starve or die of disease before the help they need NOW is provided.

I haven't forgotten the CIA fiasco in Columbia. The watchers need watching for sure!

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

IPlural: Sometimes the people actually doing the murdering are at fault.

Blaming the US or the CIA or any other organization for the murderous behavior of the terrorists is akin to blaming society for the actions of a serial killer.

Not a chance. Mr. Moore has proven himself to be completly unrelaible and an out-and-out liar. It has been proven in many forums, by interested and impartial persons, that his mockumentary "Bowling for Columbine" was fabrications and un-truths designed solely to stir up contraversey. You can pretty well bet that if his lips are moving, or not, he's lying. >

I do not condone terrorism in any way shape or form. But, Mrs. Footsie is right. Until we accept some responsibility for our actions, selling of weaponry, biologic and chemical agents, including what we sold to Saddam, providing intelligence to those in power when it suited us, then abandoning them when we tire of them, manipulating governments, etc. Until we accept responsibility for a host of manipulating actions we perpetrated over in the mideast and elsewhere, this war will go on and on and on.

Another thing....... This war on terror is so misguided. Terror is the weapon they are using. It's like having a war on cannons or a war on rifles. Until we recognize who "they" really are, and make some attempts to reconcile some differences, at least TRY, we've already lost the war.

For what it's worth, I'm 53 years old. I'm very liberal, very progressive, very much in favor of single payer health care, socialized education, and doing in the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries. They are crooks, and I'm so freakin' sick of the bailouts they are getting by the Bushies. Makes me wanna puke.

Geez....... I can go on and on..........

fabrications and un-truths designed solely to stir up contraversey.

This is exactly what Moore is about. I have been watching Moore shows since the "The awful truth" series, and I never believed blindly what he said. I think all he wants to do is to pull people out of their lethargy and incite discussions about a particular topic, and he seems to be very successful in doing exactly that.

At least that's how I see his work.

What if the Iraqies put Saddam back in power? Damn, would that look bad on America or what?!
