Just curious as to what people do when they're not on WC...

I am the warehouse manager for a very large manufacturer and distributor of 'Adult Entertainment Products'. Shhh...don't flame. I know it's immoral.

It pays pretty good and that type of environment doesn't bother me. All my friends are jelous, and the company trips to Atlantic City and Vegas are a lot of fun.

So what do you guys do?

BoXXi, got a lot of card counters in your casino?
on Aug 04, 2003

Dawn - that sounds like a really rewarding line of work.

c242 - I keep hearing the same story, are there any companies that are healthy? So many jobs have evaporated, where does it end?

I'm a terrible card player... I rely on "luck".

David, I don't really think casino's have a problem with that

By day a rice farmer. By nite a keeper of - aged old parents, 1 daughter, and 2 grandchildren. Ah me, for real job with security and every once in awhile just some peace and quiet. >

exactly... I think there's a plaque in the east tower at the Riviera that says "these new elevators were provided by a generous contribution from DavidK"

BoXXi would have no problem with me being in his casino... here, have another 'free' drink!

Meteorologist - weather forecasts and warnings for eastern Oregon and Washington...as well as travelling to those areas to service remote weather sensing equipment.

Boxxi: I like to gamble (mostly Vegas)...that is probably why I have my current day-job.

DavidK : It is terrible at the moment. Everywhere You hear, companies are going or shrinking. My luck that my company managed not to go bankrupt and they are actually able to give redundancy pay to every employee. Nevertheless it is quite bitter to see Your work of 14 years go to the bin like this. I have done quite all business software in COBOL on the AS/400 here (I programmed the whole order and invoice system from scratch for example or started the network here with Win 3.11 years ago) and it is sad to see the software and all the work (The extremest amount of work spent on it one day was 23 hours without break) go for good... But the new job will be very interesting, so I look forward to it. Maybe I can even finally manage to do some graphical work on a new website also...

When I was in Vegas (1 day and 1 night during our california travel 4 years ago) I didn't spend even 1 cent for gambling. Now, how strange is that ? Nevertheless I was quite impressed. We spent the night at the 'Luxor'.

I love the smell of "bloody marys" when I wake-up in Vegas
on Aug 05, 2003
can't seem to edit my above post...

Just wanted to clarify that my day-job is somewhat related to gambling...not that I have it to pay for the gambling!

c242: The Luxor is nice, but I have better luck at the smaller places just outside of town. Trivia: did you know someone jumped from a balcony (20th floor?) of the Luxor...she hit the marble floor right in front of the registration counter. For anyone not familiar with the Luxor, it's the pyramid shaped hotel/casino where all the corridors and balconies are facing the interior.

The locals believe the Luxor is cursed. I didn't know a woman jumped from the 20th floor but several people died building it. When it first opened a friend and I went there to meet someone and left after a few minutes (and winning $300 on the roulette table) because it felt evil. We both had the same feeling and just headed for the door to get out of there. Later that night a friend of mine that worked for Steve Win told me about the curse.

They have the "world's most powerful laser" shooting straight up from the top and were made to turn it off when planes come in to McKarren airport because it blinds the pilots.

hmm...maybe that's why I don't frequent that place (or win anything)...didn't realize there was a curse. If you've ever taken a (semi) close look at the laser beam at night, it looks like moths and other bugs are swarming in the beam (high above the source)...those are bats...by the thousands.

sorry about the off-topic!
on Aug 05, 2003
hehe - a black pyramid with thousands of bats swarming above it... definitely evil...
on Aug 05, 2003
Hmm, I felt quite comfortable there. Maybe I am evil ?
